COVID Thoughts 2020

During this time, it can feel a bit apocalyptic to be socially distancing with all restaurants shut down, work remotely, and have a raging pandemic worldwide. Here are some things I’ve been doing to stay sane and connected with my goals:

  • Beginner Chicken Keeping and Quail Raising: I highly recommend taking these virtual classes from Alchemist Farms, led by Franchesca Duval. Aside from being lovely pets, raising poultry is another way to connect with our environment and take a step towards food security and sustainability. The topics cover everything you need to know: brooding, incubation, feed, setting up a chicken coop, chicken breeds, and maximizing the happiness of your flock.

  • Cooking: In addition to supporting local restaurants who are doing delivery, I’ve been taking this opportunity to make that “soup that takes 3 hours” or learn a new recipe.

  • Virtual Workouts: My favorites are Barry’s (Instagram Live), Workouts by Katya, and traditional biking.

  • Zoom Catch-ups with friends

  • Learning more Chinese characters

  • Netflix: I tend to avoid binging on shows, but there’s nothing I enjoy more than a captivating plot with stellar character development:

    • Money Heist (La Casa de Papel): On its 4th season, this Spanish drama follows the lives of 8 criminals led by a mastermind to rob the Royal Mint of Spain

    • Crash Landing On You: Korean drama set in a North Korean village

    • Shoplifters - Japanese drama centered on a non-biological family mired in poverty, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

    • Pandemic: non-fiction, chilling series on pandemics filmed in 2019.
